La Rioja, Spain is perhaps best known for its excellent wine, known the world over for being full bodied, very mature wines, and for being a part of the Camino de Santiago, a synonymous pilgrimage that extends from various points in Europe, ending at the eponymous Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

I find that the most memorable characteristics of La Rioja are its people, its cuisine, and its scenery with La Rioja‘s mountains and rivers being amongst the most memorable.  No matter how long the extent of time distancing me from La Rioja, thinking of the gentility and all around amicability of the riojanos (Riojan people) always brings a smile to my face.

Much like the cuisine throughout the rest of Spain, where an inherited culture of Tapas and bar food bring about an incredible amount of great street food, specially their ‘pinchos’ or kebabs, which here in La Rioja are just too delicious and mouth watering.
